Closing Cost Assistance
Questions to ask about grants, assistance, and eligibility.
Know what assistance can cover
Some programs may help eligible buyers with down payments or closing costs. Availability, funding, income limits, purchase-price limits, and property requirements change.
Verify before relying on a program
Ask an approved lender or a HUD-approved housing counselor about current options. New York buyers can research the State of New York Mortgage Agency through the official Homes and Community Renewal website.
Ask about long-term terms
Confirm whether assistance is a grant or loan, whether repayment or recapture applies, and how long you must occupy the property. Do not count assistance in your offer plan until eligibility and funds are confirmed.
